David L. Salvador age 66 of Provincetown, died Friday evening December 27, 2013 at his home following a long illness. He was the life partner of Sara A. Alter. Born in Provincetown, he was the son of the late Louis A. and Agnes F. (Jackett) Salvador. He was a graduate of Provincetown High School class of 1965 where he was both a football star and a state gymnast.
Although David had survived many years of poor health and a liver transplant several years ago, he chose to live his life to the fullest. During the late ‘70s and into the early ‘80s he owned and maintained a farm in Nova Scotia. However it was Provincetown that he consider home for many different reasons. Much of his life was spent around the ocean, fishing, diving for lobsters and working as a sword fish spotter. His other passion was boats; buying, selling or rebuilding them. The first boat he owned was the “Santina,” one that he used for fishing and lobster diving. He then purchased the “Shirley and Roland” from his father, a boat named for his older brother and sister. Subsequently, he rebuilt the “Eastern Star,” a boat originally built for the King and Queen of Denmark, one that he would sail across the Atlantic 4 times. He also salvaged the “Sara Elizabeth,” a sunken scallop boat and also rebuilt a yacht he purchased from Kelly’s Boat Landing which later won several awards. He named his last 4 boats the “Las Tango.”
In 2005 he and Sara bought a home in Darien, GA that had been badly damaged in a fire and rebuilt it. They have enjoyed spending the last few winters there.
Besides Sara, he is survived by his two sons, Christian Salvador Gage and his wife Christy of Thomasville, NC and Jesse Gage and his wife Marlena of Brooklyn, NY. He also has 5 grandchildren, Capper Julla, Shoal, Dalee and Rier, all of Thomasville, NC and Jonah Blue of Brooklyn, NY. He is the brother of Mary Beck and her husband Eric of Provincetown, Shirley Kornfeind and her husband John of Beverly Hills, FL and Roland Salvador of Providence, RI.
