Faye Ross Shealey, 84, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, December 29, 2013, at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the Ocilla Church of God with the Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends from 7-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the service time at the church on Thursday.
Mrs. Shealey was born December 5, 1929, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Clifford M. & Maggie Harper Ross. She was a former seamstress for Irwin Manufacturing and she also owned and operated the Tastee Freez for many years. Mrs. Shealey was a private sitter and a CNA for Tender Care. She was a foster parent for over 100 children. She returned to school and at age 70 received her GED from East Central Technical College. She was a member of Ocilla Church of God. Mrs. Shealey loved her family and enjoyed listening to gospel music. She was also an excellent cook.
She is survived by her children: Ronnie Shealey, Larry Shealey, Doug & Kathy Shealey, and Retha Faye Shealey, all of Fitzgerald; two daughters-in-law: Barbara Sue Shealey of Fitzgerald and Barbara Shealey of Lawrenceville; 19 grandchildren: Scott Shealey, Glenn Shealey, III, Deana Jordan, Samantha Shealey, Ace Shealey, Cameron Shealey, April Shealey, Autumn Shealey, Mike Shealey, Brad Shealey, Jeffrey Shealey, Brian Shealey, Stephanie Shealey, Allison Shealey, Jason Shealey, Katelyn Shealey, Tabitha Shealey, Josh Shealey, and Michael Shealey; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Homer G. “Tab” Shealey; two sons: Glenn Shealey and Wayne Shealey; one brother; and two sisters.
