Obituary

Plymouth---Ruth A. Millar died peacefully, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, at Forest View Manor in Meredith, New Hampshire on December 26, 2013.
Ruth was born in Plymouth, New Hampshire on November 9, 1930 to James Millar and Annie (Rafferty) Millar. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1948, received her Bachelor of Education degree from Plymouth Teachers College (now Plymouth State University) in 1952 and went on to earn a Master of Education degree also from Plymouth Teachers College. For 38 years she taught elementary school in Franklin, Littleton and Plymouth until her retirement in 1990.
She was a lifetime active member of the Plymouth Congregational Church. For many years she sang in the Pemi Chorale Society, was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Retired Teachers’ Association.
Ruth dearly loved her family, friends and her students. She enjoyed traveling, music and caring for her gardens at her home in Plymouth. She loved her neighbor’s children whom she affectionately called “The Boys.”
Ruth is survived by her brother William K. Millar and his wife Edith of Bath, Maine; her brother John J. Millar and his wife Evelyn of Laconia, NH; her sister Elizabeth M. Howard of Laconia; her sister-in-law Barbara Millar of Kittery, Maine; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her father and mother, by her sister Grace and her brother James S. Millar.
Remembering how much Ruth loved her garden and her flowers, she was also conscious of the many needs of others. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00PM at the Plymouth Congregational Church, Post Office Square, Plymouth, N.H.
Spring burial will be in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth.
