Obituary

Joseph E. Conceison, 89, of Topsfield, formerly of Middleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Masconomet Health Care in Topsfield. He was the loving husband of the late Priscilla (Buckingham) Conceison, with whom they shared 34 years of marriage.
Born and raised in North Easton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Filomena (Dantas) Conceison. He graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 1942. He attended Wentworth Institute studying engineering, until he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served from 1943-1946 with the Co A 3184th Signal Service Battalion during WW II, which took him through parts of Germany, Belgium, and France. While in the service he also attended North Central College, IL.
He was employed by the General Electric Company, River Works Plant in Lynn as a Design Analyst. He retired in 1990 after 41 years with the company.
The Middleton Board of Selectmen dedicated the 1997 Town Report to “Joe”, who had served on various ad hoc committees for 29 years, and served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for 28 years. He was a former member of the Middleton Historical Society, and Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the VFW in North Easton, and the American Legion in Middleton. He enjoyed sports especially baseball and bowling, and loved to go dancing. He was an avid gardener, always planting too much so he could share. He had the same passion for photography, taking his camera to every event, and sending copies to family and friends. He also enjoyed travelling and had visited Portugal, the Caribbean Islands, Florida, and Colorado.
Joseph was a communicant of Saint Agnes Church in Middleton for many years.
He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by one daughter, Catherine Gerry, and her husband Ray, of Topsfield, two granddaughters, Colleen Eastwood and her husband Kevin of Dracut, MA, and Christine Kilgore and her husband Daniel of Newton, NH, three great-granddaughters, Cassandra and Cadence Eastwood, and Isabelle Kilgore. He also leaves a sister, Mary Elizabeth Schumacher, and her husband Gene, of Taunton, and a sister in law Jean Conceison of Westerly, RI, and many nieces and nephews.
Joseph is predeceased by a sister Maria Conceison of North Easton, a brother Edward Concesion of Wethersfield CT, and a brother Oscar Concesion, and his wife Dorothy, of North Easton.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 9AM in Saint Agnes Church, Boston St., Middleton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 3-7PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
