Marian Lamping Bowers,88, passed away Dec.26,2013 at the Louisville Hosparus unit surrounded by her daughters and family. She was preceded in death by her parents Louis Lamping and Nina Messer Lamping and her brothers Louis Jr., William, and Robert Lamping and her husband of 47 years Howard Bowers.
Mom was a member of the Greatest Generation and a child of the Depression. She never wasted anything (sometimes to her daughter's dismay). In 1943 (at the height of WWII), she entered St. Anthony School of Nursing as an Army Nursing Cadet. She graduated in the class of 1946. She touched the lives of many patients during her 45 year career.
She is survived by her six daughters, Nina Schindler (Buck), Becky Eftekari (Reza) of Woodbridge, Va, Joan Mortensen-Ware (Ivo), Irene Bowers, Lisa Brooks (Fairleigh), and Sherri Duncan. Also surviving her are nine grandchildren, Sean, Laurel, Reza, Becca, Chris, Darius, Nicholas, Brent, Caroline, four great grandchildren, and brother Eugene Lamping.
Mom's family would like to thank the staff of Hosparus who with their tenderness and respect provided her such a peaceful transition. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Ronald McDonald House of Louisville (a charity close to Mom's heart) or Hosparus of Louisville.
Visitation will be held 2-7 pm, Monday, December 30, 2013 at Owen Funeral Home - Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Rd.
