George "Matt" Miller, a beloved mentor, colleague, and teacher at Austin Preparatory School entered eternal life on Friday, December 20, 2013. Matt passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Mr. Miller retired in 2012 after nearly 45 years of service to Austin Prep. He began his distinguished tenure in 1969 and over the course of his career served Austin in many different capacities, including Director of the Library and Media Center, Dean of Student Activities, Chair of the English Department, Theology Faculty, Moderator of The Legend, Moderator of the Omega, Moderator of Student Council, and Advisor to the Friends of Austin. He was a recipient of the Austin Medal and a member of the Augustinian Associates.
Thousands of Austin students and alumni - including members of Austin Prep's Board of Trustees - were influenced by Mr. Miller's life and they grieve his loss. Austin Prep is poorer by his passing away, but life in the Austin community was made immensely rich because he passed our way. An alumnus of Austin Prep who knew Mr. Miller for more than 40 years wrote and said of Matt Miller: "His legacy is thousands of alumni, colleagues, and friends whose lives are surely better for having known him. We can be confident he is in a much better place now. I can imagine his meeting God and hearing God say, 'Well done, good and faithful servant.'"
Eternal rest grant unto George "Matt" Miller, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May Matt's soul, and all the souls of the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Son of the late George and Julia (Grace) Miller. Brother of Catherine Heimbach and her husband Lou of Warwick, NY and Jane M. Dowling and her husband Richard of E. Brunswick, NJ. He also leaves 6 nieces and nephews and 2 grandnieces.
