Obituary

CHICOPEE – Lucille I. (Mercier) Mettey, 80, a longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Redstone Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on September 18, 1933, the beloved daughter of the late Armand and Rhea (LaPointe) Mercier. She was raised and schooled in Holyoke and lived in the city for many years before moving to the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 1971. In 2004, Lucille and her late husband, Lee, moved to the McKinley House where they made many new friends. Lucille was a quiet unassuming woman who took great pride in her family and joy in her crafting. She showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a longtime member of the Aldenville American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 337 and a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, both in Chicopee. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Lionel J. “Lee” Mettey, Jr. who was Called Home on December 2, 2007. They were married on May 30, 1952 at Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. She leaves her devoted sons, Paul S. Mettey of Springfield, John J. Mettey and his wife, Mary, of Chicopee, Lionel J. “Lee” Mettey, Jr. and his wife, Laurie, of Holyoke and Michael W. Mettey of Springfield; her five cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Jennifer Bosshart and her husband, John, Crystal Sereno, and Ashley, Colin and Lauren Mettey; and her two cherished great-grandchildren, Ava Grace and Jacob Gregory Bosshart.
