Luigi “Gino” DiPietro, 83 of Medford died Wednesday after a brief illness in the Massachusetts General Hospital Boston, MA.
Born in Italy, and formerly of the West End of Boston, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Maria (Franciosa) DiPietro.
Gino was President and owner of Cousins Construction Co. Inc. in Charlestown from 1956 until his retirment in 1993. He was educated in Italy and attend the Naval Academy in Venice, Italy from 1939-1942.
Mr. DiPietro was a member of the Kiwanis International in Charlestown and served as president between 1985 and 1987. He is also a member and past officer of the Associazione Nazional Marinai d’Italia. Gino also owned and raced championship greyhounds at Wonderland, Raynham, Taunton and Florida race tracks. He was well know for his vegetable gardens and was well known at the Meadow Glen Mall in Medford.
Beloved husband of Evelina (Volpe) DiPietro. Devoted father of Rita Danilchuck and her husband Gregg of Medford. Loving grandfather of Peter and Josef Danilchuck. Brother of Aquilino DiPietro of Argentina, Raffaele DiPietro, Carolina Franciosa both of Italy, Gilda DiRienzo, Anna Cazurlo both of Medford, and the late Alfredo and Guerino DiPietro. Also survived by many in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Saturday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 9.
Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
