Barbara (Broadhurst) Sylvia, 73, of Methuen passed away Saturday December 21st at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. She was born in Methuen daughter of the late Raymond and Violet (Morin) Broadhurst. Barbara was a lifelong resident of Methuen and a graduate of St Mary's High School in Lawrence. She was a devoted wife and mother and spent her time at home taking care of her family. Barbara enjoyed her birds, crossword puzzles, but most of all going out to eat with her sisters and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchild.
Barbara is predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years Donald Sylvia and is survived by a daughter Carolyn Giroux and her companion Ron Arsenault of Newton NH, a son Mark Sylvia and his wife Karen of Methuen, sisters Carol Richard and her husband Raymond of Haverhill, Janice Leyland of Haverhill, Patricia Broadhurst of North Andover, grandchildren Courtney Giroux, Ashley Giroux, Alexander Sylvia, Gabrielle Sylvia, a great grandson Ryan Forgue, many nieces and nephews, and she was also predeceased by her brother Raymond Broadhurst Jr. and a granddaughter Michele Giroux.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Friday December 27th from 4-8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday December 28th at 11 AM at St Monica's Church in Methuen with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery also in Methuen. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Barbara's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
