Albert O. Houtman, 93, of New Bedford died March 17, 2002 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Iola T. (Hobson) Houtman and son of the late John W. and Olive M. (Mason) Houtman.
Mr. Houtman was born in New Bedford, lived in New Bedford for many years and lived in Cambridge since 1963. He returned to New Bedford in 1997.
He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Center and a former member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Mr. Houtman was formerly employed as a custodian at Massachusetts General Hospital for many years until his retirement.
He studied electronics at DeForest Institute in Chicago.He enjoyed studying the bible and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Survivors include a son, Albert O. Houtman, Jr., and his wife Mary "Lourdy", of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Olive Smith and Patricia Jackson both of New Bedford; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.He was the father of the late Floyd Leon Houtman and the brother of the late Raymond F. Houtman, Charles Houtman and John W. Houtman, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service in the Christian Fellowship Center, 818 Church St., New Bedford, Thursday, March 21st at 11 AM.
Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Wednesday, March 20th from 5-9 PM.
Interment Oak Grove Cemetery.
