Obituary



Charlotte A. Murphy, wife of Lawrence A. Murphy, after a long illness, passed away peacefully the evening of December 16, 2013 with her loving husband and her loving son Steven at her side.
Charlotte was born in New York City on November 15, 1924 to Henry Heusser and Alice (Lowe) Heusser. Soon after her birth, Charlotte moved to Brockton where she resided for most of her life.Charlotte met her husband Larry while each attended Brockton High School graduating in the class of 1942. After high school, Charlotte attended Green Mountain College in Vermont.
During World War II, Charlotte and Larry first became good friends and then found a special love which will live forever. They married January 14, 1950 at Saint Colman’s Church in Brockton. During the early years of their life together, Charlotte was employed at WEEI Radio in Boston while Larry attended graduate school. Over the next 63 years of marriage, Charlotte and Larry co-authored 22 westerns, and World War II novels, in the process receiving numerous awards and honors as well as instilling in the reader a sense of morals and integrity.
A novelist and editor, Charlotte was a parishioner, a den mother, and a CCD teacher at St. Margaret’s Church in Brockton. She found and cherished her greatest happiness in being a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a sister, an aunt and a friend to so very many.
Charlotte is survived by her beloved husband of near 64 years Lawrence, her son Attorney Steven L. Murphy of Centerville, MA, her grandson and his wife David S. and Jamie L. Murphy of Brooklyn, NY, “specially” her great granddaughter Heidi Grace Murphy of Brooklyn, NY, her wonderful sister Anita Atward of Greensboro, NC, many nieces and nephews and her many cherished friends.
Lawrence, Steven and David thank the Bayada Health Aids, Elder services of Cape Cod, the Visiting Nurses Association of Cape Cod, Emerald physicians, Doctors Francis and Edward Freccero and the many friends and relatives who brought so much beauty and love to Charlotte throughout her 89 years, a beauty and love which she gave each day and still lives in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton on Thursday 3-7 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 am.
