Obituary


Abington – Nancy Lane (Slayter) Murphy 78, died Thursday December 12 in her Abington home, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard A. Murphy.

Born in Quincy and raised in Abington she was the only child of the late Everett and Lillian (Stenzel) Slayter, and a graduate of Abington High School.

Nancy began her college career at UMass Amherst, where she met her husband Richard. They became engaged immediately and were married on the day after Christmas.

She had been lifelong resident of Abington, where she and her husband Richard lovingly raised their five children, and had been very happy to be members of the “church family” of the First Baptist Church of Abington.

She truly enjoyed collecting various antiques, especially antique dolls.

She was the loving mother of Richard A. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Norton, Lisa Curtin and her husband John of Abington, Lauri Abrams and her husband David of Sarasota, FL, Melinda Towne of Abington and the late Bethellen Moynihan who passed away last December; cherished grandmother of John P. Curtin, Jr., of Abington, Nancy (Curtin) Galewski of Whitman, Stephanie Souza of Riverside, RI., Leland Conti and Maria Conti both of Weymouth, Robert E. Murphy of NH, Allen E. Murphy of Norton and Melody S. Towne and Eric Towne both of Abington. She is also survived by her seven great grandchildren Kasara & Brailana Elliot, Olivia and Steven Galewski, Jeffrey Souza Jr., Lillian Costa and Gabriel Michael Murphy as well as her brother and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her special cousins Irene Harlow of Bridgewater and Joan Tilden of Weymouth.

Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service to be held Saturday January 18 at 10:30 AM in the First Baptist Church, 219 Adams Street, Abington.
