Alexander R. “Bud” Smith, Jr., 81, of Westport, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 at home. He was the son of the late Alexander R. and Edale C. (Warren) Smith.
Born and raised in Westport, he was a lifelong resident of the town. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a self-employed commercial fisherman. Mr. Smith was a member of the former Westport Volunteer Fireman Department and the Shellfish Advocacy Board. He was a bass player in a Blue Grass band that played locally and started the Wednesday Night Jam Sessions at the Westport Point Wharf. Mr. Smith was co-owner of both Westport Lobster Co. and Noquochoke Orchard of Westport. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his son: Dale A. Smith of Westport; his daughter: Sherry Lynne Smith of CA; 2 brothers: Herbert E. Smith and George E. Smith, both of Westport; 2 sisters: Carolyn Langlois of Dartmouth and Doris E. Mills of Westport; 3 grandchildren: Ryan, Lauren and Allison; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Lee Anne Smith and the former husband of the late Barbara (Simmons) Smith.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Steve and Robin, Mr. Smith’s caregivers.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
