
ANDERSON – Sarah Lane Powell, 95 of Anderson passed away Nov. 26, 2013.
Sarah was born May 24, 1918, the oldest daughter of Stanley Clayton Hill and Mae Belle Farris Hill. Raised in Birmingham, Alabama, she lived the majority of her adult life in the Indianapolis area. In her later years, she and her husband, William Lee Powell (deceased) moved to Anderson to be close to their daughter, Sandra Powell-Zentz and family.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Edward Hill, her sister, Margaret Workman, her youngest sister, Carolyn Thee and her beloved son-in-law, Tony Gene Zentz, Sr.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Powell–Zentz of Davidson, NC; grandson Tony G. Zentz Jr. (Lauren) of Fortville IN; granddaughters, Cameron J. Zentz of Atlanta, GA, Allison (Matt) Lersch of Apex, NC, Eden (Travis) Perry of Davidson, NC and 12 adoring great grandchildren.
For over 30 years, Sarah worked in the administration and admission departments within the Indianapolis School System at both Broad Ripple and John Marshall High Schools.
Her love of family and the positive influence she had on three generations and a lifetime of friends will always be remembered. Sarah’s gentle spirit, calming manner and wise counsel were endearing.
Sarah had a deep and unwavering spiritual faith and love of Christ. A member of the Church of Christ, she lived her life with unconditional love and acceptance for all people. She was actively involved in Bible Study Fellowship as a student and teacher. She had a beautiful alto singing voice and loved music. Through her faith, Sarah positively impacted the lives of so many people.
Sarah was a true Southern Lady. Sarah loved and appreciated all things beautiful. She will always be remembered for her impeccable sense of style and taste.
