NEW BEDFORD — Adele Croker Smialek of South Dartmouth, died on December 6, 2013 at The Oaks of New Bedford. The wife of Alfred J. Smialek, she was born in Glen Rock, New Jersey, the daughter of the late William L. and Adele (Simon) Croker, and grew up in RidgeÂwood, New Jersey.
A graduate of Green Mountain College in Vermont, Adele became Director of Volunteer Services and Assistant Personnel Director at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.
An active member of Grace Episcopal Church, she was involved in the Food Pantry, the Library Committee, the Bittersweet Bazaar and served as Chairman of the Memorial Gifts Committee for many years. Adele was also a member of the New Bedford Garden Club, St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary and was a Past President of the Ladies Branch of the N.B. Port Society.
In addition to her husband Fred, she is survived by her son Peter and his wife Lori Ann Hazell and their children Jacob, Andrew and Krista of Belmont, Ma. and her son David and his wife Sharon Burns and their children Stephen, Sean and Sarah of South Dartmouth.
Her funeral will take place on Friday, December 13th at 10 a.m. in Grace Episcopal Church, 422 County St., New Bedford.
Remembrances may be made in her name to the Memorial Fund of Grace Church, 133 School St., N.B 02740. Burial in River-side Cemetery is private.
