NATICK: James E. Mahoney, Jr., age 71, a longtime Natick resident, died suddenly on Sunday morning, December 8, 2013 at Natick’s MetroWest Medical Center. He was the devoted husband of Grace M. (Battaglioli) Mahoney for 36 years.
Born in Arlington, he was the son of the late James E. and Mabel (Bridges) Mahoney.
Jim was raised in Arlington and spent much of his youth in York, Maine, his mother’s home town. He was a graduate of Arlington High School.
Jim was employed with the Raytheon Corporation for forty years, retiring as a quality control engineer in 2003. He and Grace made their home in Natick and spent the greater part of the summer months living aboard their boat. Jim enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for boating with others and would happily host relatives and friends, whether for an evening’s entertainment or for an excursion. He was a longtime member and past commander of the Nobscot Sail and Power Squadron. While with the group, he was dedicated to sharing his knowledge of seamanship and boat safety with others.
He is survived by Grace; her siblings, Victor Battaglioli and his wife Margaret of Colchester, CT, Peter Battaglioli and his wife Susan of Plymouth, and Carol Hamilton and her husband Mark of Hanover; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Thursday, December 12th at 11:30a.m. Relatives and friends may visit with Jim’s family beginning at 10 o’clock. Burial will be private.
