John Scott Summerlin, 48, of Tifton, GA died Wednesday, December 4, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013, in the sanctuary of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church. Reverend Stephen Webb will officiate.
Mr. Summerlin was born on July 31, 1965 in Douglas and will be remembered as a devoted father, loving husband, brother and son and loyal friend.
Mr. Summerlin was the Salutatorian of the Atkinson County High School class of 1983. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Valdosta State College with a degree in Finance in 1987. While in college, he served as the Treasurer of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He obtained a Juris Doctor of Law degree from the University of Georgia Law School in 1990.
After working for the Vaughan, Davis, Birch and Murphy law firm in Atlanta, he returned home to Pearson and served as General Counsel and Vice President of the Citizens Exchange Bank.
Mr. Summerlin is survived by his wife of 23 years, Karen Holbrook Summerlin and their children, John Collin and Anna Olivia, his parents, Jeannie and Robert A. Summerlin, his sister Meg “M” Summerlin and her husband Warren A. Tyre, his wife’s parents, Jo Ann and Lamar Holbrook, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lori and Jeff Polofsky and nephews Alex and Grant Polofsky.
