NATICK: Walter E. Salvi, Jr., age 70, a dedicated resident of Natick, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. He was the devoted husband of Susan (Marsh) Salvi.

Born in Boston on May 15, 1943, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Antoinette M. (Strozzi) Salvi. Walter was raised in Roslindale and was a graduate of English High School of Boston. He entered the Massachusetts National Guard prior to continuing his education at Boston University’s School of Journalism.

Walter started as a reporter with the Providence Journal, shortly thereafter joining the reporting staff at the Boston Record American. After several years, Walter became an editor. In 1978, he accepted a position in Public and Community Relations with Boston Edison, later NStar. He was to become the media’s go to person in good times and bad until his retirement earlier this year.

Active in his church and community, he was a lector at Saint Linus Church for many years. He served on the Natick Finance Committee, attended town meetings, was active in local politics and was a longtime worker at the polls on elections day. Walter served on the board of the West Suburban Arena on behalf of the Natick Comets, and was currently vice chair of the Council on Aging, where he regularly lent his time to working in the kitchen. He also enjoyed his involvement with the Natick Service Council. An enthusiastic golfer, he was a member of the Sassamon Trace Club since its inception, and would play up to three days a week.

He is survived by Susan; their children, Janet Salvi Salvoni and husband Frank of Hailey, ID, Paul Salvi and wife Sharon of Natick, and Elizabeth Salvi Brown and husband T.R. of Marietta, GA; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Liliana, Lucy, George, Cooper, Juliette, and Anna Claire; a sister, Nancy Winchester and husband Richard of Natick, and Susan’s mother, Rita (Cass) Marsh of Framingham.
