Edith B. Millett
Longtime Tewksbury Resident
TEWKSBURY: Edith "Edie"(Blackburn) Millett, age 84, a resident of Tewksbury for 65 years, passed away at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston on Saturday, November 30, 2013.
She was the beloved wife of Tewksbury Fire Department Captain Frederick R. Millett, who passed away on January 21, 1973.
Born in Wilmington on June 22, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Edith (Wormsley) Blackburn.
Mrs. Millett attended Wilmington Schools and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1946. Following graduation, she attended the Tewksbury Hospital School of Nursing and met her future husband at the former Red Roof Store in Tewksbury.
Following her wedding in June of 1948, she moved to Tewksbury, where she and her late husband raised their family.
Mrs. Millett previously worked as a Dietician at the Tewksbury Hospital and as a Clerk at the former Nahill's Drug Store in Tewksbury.
Edith enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with the "Golden Girls".
She is survived by two sons, Frederick R. Millett, Jr. and his wife Jane of Rowley
and William "Russell" Millett of Tewksbury; three grandchildren, Erik Millett and his wife Jenn of Wakefield, Ivan Jackson of Rowley and Adam Jackson of Anchorage, AK; her great-granddaughter, Simone M. Millett of Wakefield; one brother, Alfred S. "Bud" Blackburn of Spring Hill, FL; one sister, Alice V. MacDonald and her husband Alexander of Salem, NH; her brother-in-law, Emmett Millett of Tewksbury; also many nieces and nephews.
Edith was the sister of the late Beverly Townley, formerly of Morristown, TN, and Florence B. Heenan, formerly of Billerica.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 3-7 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Her funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury.
