Ferdinand C. "Fred" Macedo, Sr., 91, of New Bedford died December 2, 2013 peacefully at Sacred Heart Home.
He was the husband of the late Gladys C. Macedo.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Virginio C. and Maria J. (Pacheco) Macedo, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Macedo was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He was formerly employed by Berkshire-Hathaway for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Macedo was a graduate of the Boston School for the Deaf. He was a member of the International Catholic Deaf Association, Commission for Citizens with Disabilities, the Independent Living Council of New Bedford and the Apostolate for the Deaf and Handicapped of the Diocese of Fall River.
Survivors include 2 sons, Edward Macedo and his wife Pauline and Deacon Paul Macedo and his wife Marie, all of New Bedford; a daughter, Theresa Souza of New Bedford; a brother, Viginio "Gene" Macedo of New Bedford; 4 sisters, Alice Macedo, Stella Macedo and Theresa Brune, all of New Bedford and Natalie Stawasz of Dartmouth; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Ferdinand Macedo, Jr. and the brother of the late Mary J. Macedo.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, December 7th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 6th from 4-8 PM.
