Normand H. Sasseville, 90, of Westport died Friday, November 29, 2013 at home. He was husband of the late Rita L. (Richard) Sasseville.
Born in New Bedford, he was son of the late Eugene and Marie-Rose (Girouard) Sasseville. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Army Air Force, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. Mr. Sasseville flew a P47 fighter plane in the 9th Air force serving in the 404 Fighter Group and the 507 Fighter Squadron in Europe. Prior to his retirement in 1993, he was a professor at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. He was a former member of the Westport Land Trust and a former member of the Westport Conservation Commission.
Survivors include a son: Donald E. Sasseville and his wife Sheila of FL; 2 daughters: Doris M. Carvalho of Westport and Diane L. Souza and her husband Ronald of Westport; a brother: Roland Sasseville of NC; 2 sisters: Laurette Hudon of New Bedford and Bernice Smith of FL; 4 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Bernard Sasseville.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Monday 4 – 7 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
