Obituary

CHICOPEE – Leo L. Michon, Sr., 88, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was called safely home on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, 2013. He passed into eternal life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Holyoke on July 27, 1925, the seventh child of twenty to the late Cleophas and Orianna (Gauthier) Michon. He was raised and schooled in Holyoke and lived in Chicopee for most of his life. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and attained the rank of Seaman First Class. He served aboard the USS Earl B. Hall and was also assigned to the Naval Facilites in Tsugen Shima, Okinawa. He received the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he returned to the area and was employed for over 38 years at the Eastern Etching Company in Chicopee and retired in 1987. He was a life member of the Fairview Council 4044 Knights of Columbus where he volunteered his time at many of the council functions. Besides his parents and 18 siblings, he was also predeceased by his loving son, Leo L. Michon, Jr., who was called home on August 10, 1998; and his beloved wife and best friend, Estelle E. (Millette) Michon who was called home on October 15, 2013. They were married on May 10, 1947 at the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. He leaves his loving children, Linda O. Boudreau of Chicopee, Leona B. Grant of Flagler Beach, FL, Marie E. Lafleur and her husband, Roger, of Chicopee, Laurence L. Michon of Chicopee and Robert R. Michon of Chicopee; his nine cherished grandchildren, Laura Stamborski and her husband, Gary, Erik Boudreau, Elynne Ey and her husband, Christopher, Todd Nadeau and his wife, Kimberly, Serena Nadeau, Kurt Lafleur and his wife, Michelle, Keith Lafleur, Kim Avey and her husband, Norman, and Charity Michon and her fiancé, Moe Roy; his dear brother, Norman Michon and his wife, Jean, of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Michon and Millette families. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Service of Committal with US Navy Military Honors on Tuesday afternoon, December 3, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
