Tony Gomes, 76, of New Bedford died October 1, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in West Wareham, the son of the late Albert and Josephine (Mendes) Gomes, he had lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Gomes was formerly employed by the New Bedford Public School Department as a security guard until his retirement.
Mr. Gomes served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans Dr. C.E. Burt Chapter 7 in New Bedford and the Massachusetts Senior Action Council in Boston.
Survivors include 2 sons, Todd Anthony Gomes and Dana Anthony Gomes both of New Bedford; 2 stepdaughters, Nancy Martin and Rosemary Wills, both of New Bedford; a brother, Joseph J. Gomes, and his wife Geraldine, of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Amelia G. Pina and Jennie Alves, both of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Lawrence Gomes, Alice Gomes, Albina Tavares, Adeline "Lena" Gomes-Pires, Dominga Gomes, Arthur Gomes and Ricky Gomes.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordMonday, October 4th at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Sunday, October 3rd from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery.
