Sr. Dolores B. Strong, formerly known as Sr. Mary Angela of the Sisters of Mercy, passed away November 25th in St. Francis Home. She was 99 years old. She leaves several cousins, including her caregiver, Mary Kay Paladino of West Boylston and Myrtle McComber of Princeton; and a number of close friends, especially John Griffin, Esq.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Alfred F. and Agatha H. (Slattery) Strong and graduated from Catholic University and received her Masters of Education degree from Worcester State College. Sr. Dolores did a fellowship of Doctoral Study at Clark University. She was with the Sisters of Mercy and had been a teacher with the Diocesan Schools for 30 years. More recently, she was a psychologist both for the schools and in private practice and she authored “Sown in Granite” about Bishop Fenwick.
Mary Kay would like to thank the staff of St. Francis Home, especially Sonja Walter, Vilma Zenquis and more recently Consuelo, as well as the Notre Dame Hospice for the compassionate care they provided Sr. Dolores.
Her funeral is Monday, December 2nd with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Barre. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Parish, 551 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA 01602. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, is assisting with arrangements.
