Swartz Phyllis (Gilman) 91 of Winthrop and formerly of Chelsea passed away on November 29, 2013. Phyllis was born and raised in Chelsea. She attended the Chelsea School System and graduated Chelsea High School, Class of 1941. Phyllis was a computer technician for the Internal Revenue Service in Boston and retired in 1982. She was a member and former chairman of the Winthrop Art Association and a former leader of both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Phyllis enjoyed reading, crafting, watching game shows and spending time with her loving and devoted family.
Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late Irving Swartz. She was the devoted mother of Samuel Swartz and his wife Linda Mangion, Cindy Carrigan and her husband Joseph and the late Ann-Bonnie Baseman and her husband Robert. She was the dear sister of the late Bernice Berk. Phyllis was the loving grandmother of Andrew, Natalie, Brendan, Ryan and his wife Alicia and Ruth. She is also survived by 2 great grandchildren.
Services at the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave., Cary Sq., Chelsea on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Everett. Memorial observance will be held immediately following the interment until 8:00 PM at the home of Cindy and Joseph Carrigan. Donations in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the Winthrop Art Association, PO Box 520010 Winthrop, MA 02152 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St. Watertown, MA 02472.
