Obituary

Mildred Louise (Schwab) Schaeftlein,

Mil passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 after a long life and a short battle with cancer. During her 93 year lifespan, she saw numerous historical events. She experienced the Flood of 1937 firsthand and wrote an essay on it. Later her essay became part of the narrative in the play, Flood! The Louisville Flood of 1937. Mil was involved in the Shively Women’s Club during the 1970’s to 1990’s. She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, and playing pinochle and bunco. She was also a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ for many years where she enjoyed being part of the choir and kitchen committee.

She goes to join her husband, Otto Von Schaeftlein, her sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Rudy Zibart, her parents, Carl and Mary Schwab, and several other friends and family members.

She leaves behind a daughter, Marilyn Schaeftlein; three grandchildren, Kim Winskye, Scot Winskye and Taren Winskye; and two great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 1st from 2-6pm at Owen Funeral Home – Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Rd. The funeral will be Monday, December 2nd at 1 pm at the funeral home. Burial Evergreen Cemetery.

The family requests that all expressions of sympathy be made as a donation to a favorite charity, church or community organization instead of flowers/plants sent to the funeral or family.
