Obituary

Harry B. Champion, 86, devoted husband, father and grandpa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17th at the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick.

Harry has joined his beloved late wife of 41 years, Ann (Hartman) Champion, daughter Carol D. Malinowski and sister Mary Anne Manning.

Born on October 16, 1927 to Harry Virgil Champion and Laura Justine Gates in Hartford, CT, Harry was raised at the historic Old Lyme Inn, which his parents owned and operated. He attended Old Lyme High School and Blair Academy before earning his degree in History from Yale University in 1948.

He married his beloved wife Ann in 1949, and the couple moved from Connecticut to Natick, MA, to raise their three children. Harry worked for thirty-five years as an insurance underwriter for Aetna. He was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Natick and a dedicated supporter of the Natick Peace Council.

Harry is survived by his adoring family, a daughter Linda Champion and her friend Gerald Granfors, son David Champion, son-in-law Peter Malinowski, daughter-in-law Ellen Montal, granddaughter Lindsay Champion and Ari the cat. He was a dedicated fan of golf, sports (especially the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox), visiting the National Parks and caring for his own backyard.

Visiting hours will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common on Friday, Nov. 22nd from 4:00-7:00PM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited.

A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church, 2 E. Central St., Natick, MA 01760 on Saturday, November 23 at 10:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harry’s memory to the Natick Visiting Nurse’s Association, 209 W. Central St., #313, Natick, MA 01760.
