Obituary

GLOUCESTER - Muriel L. “Micky” Sawyer, age 79, a long time resident of Rocky Neck, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Arthur H. “Sooky” Sawyer who died in 2006.
Born in Salem on February 3, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Alean (Young) Lint. Muriel was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing in 1954.
Muriel was employed as a registered nurse in Gloucester while raising her children. She tested eyes and ears in the Gloucester school system for many years and also worked at the former Fleet Bank. She was the treasurer of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery for many years and an election worker for Ward One. Muriel was a member of Martha Washington Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She served as an advisor to the International Order of Rainbow for Girls for many years, where she was the recipient of the Grand Cross of Color, the highest honor that an adult can be awarded.
She is survived by her beloved children, daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Welch of Bayville, NJ; two sons and daughters in law, Arthur Jr. and Laurel (Perks) of Gloucester and David and Margaret (Harvey) of Oviedo FL; ten cherished grandchildren Arthur Sawyer III and Marae of Gloucester, Jennifer and Patrick Mayo of Waterboro, ME, Carla and Daniel O’Connor of Cape Coral FL, Hayley Ruggles of Anchorage, AK, Courtney and Brian Chiusano of Los Angles, CA, James & Stefanie Welch of Ambler, PA, Jeremy Welch of King of Prussia, PA, Sara and Brian Blaszka of Forked River, NJ and David & John Sawyer of Oviedo, FL: nine adored great grandchildren Jordan, Zachary, Arielle, Faith, Nathan, Jovie, Riley, Colin and Aubrey; and her sister-in-law Rose Sawyer of Gloucester. She was also predeceased by her sister Marguerite and her brother Raymond.
To those who knew and loved her, know that she is watching over you making sure you all “behave.”
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Friends of Seacoast. Interment will be held in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, E. Gloucester.
