Dorothy Carolyn Phillips Martin, 82, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.
The family will receive friends at the Church of the Nazarene on Thursday, November 21, 2013, from 11 AM until 1 PM followed by the funeral service beginning at 1 PM, also to be held at the Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. David Ash and the Rev. Dan Hayes will officiate the service. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. .
Mrs. Martin was born in Coffee County on June 2, 1931, to the late Jefferson J. and Cora Lee Harper Phillips. She was preceded in death in 1992 by her son: Ronnie L. Martin and in 2002 by her husband of 53 years: C.L. Martin. As a young child she was a member of Wray Holiness Baptist Church in Wray, GA. At an early age, her family moved to Fitzgerald and joined the Fitzgerald Church of the Nazarene. For almost three quarters of a century, she dedicated her life to prayer and worship in the church she loved. She was also a member of the Challengers Sunday school class. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, helping her neighbors and reading the Bible. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Steve & Jamie Martin of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law: Sandra & Dennis Calhoun and Susan & Keith Brown, all of Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law: Sue Martin of Valdosta; eight grandchildren: Derrick & Mary Ellen Calhoun, Brian & Sarah Calhoun, Justin Martin, Jessica & Joe Rapa, Sheppard Martin, Blake Martin, Kayla Brown, and Kurt Brown; five great-grandchildren; one brother: Ivey Phillips of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; and a sister-in-law: Dot Phillips of Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition, she was preceded in death by six siblings.
