Barbara Ann Hammond Powers, 75, of Tifton died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Golden Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the First Assembly of God in Tifton. Rev. John Thomas and Rev. Joseph L. Crumley will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Clint Whitley, Casey Carper, John Powers, III, Allan Cason, Shane Pierce and Talmadge Hill will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Adult Sunday school class and the Young at Heart Ministry at Tifton’s First Assembly of God. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 18, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Powers was born on April 28, 1938 in Tift County and was the daughter of Gay A. Harbin and Gladys Louise Hammond Harbin, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Lester Powers, Sr., who died in 1998; one son, Bobby Powers; one grandson, Chris Carper; and three brothers. She was a homemaker and member of Tifton’s First Assembly of God where, 10 years ago, she founded the Young at Heart and the Senior Adult Ministries.
Mrs. Powers is survived by one son, John L. “Hoss” Powers, Jr. of Tifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, June and Mickey Roberts of Tifton, Becky and Jerry Hill of Tifton and Deborah Powers of Jacksonville, Florida; two brothers, Billy Connell of Tifton and Gordon Ray Harbin of Panama City, Florida; one sister, Marlene Kirkland of Panama City, Florida; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
