Francis P. Silvia, 84, of Westport died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was husband of the late Idalina “Adeline” Silvia.
Born in Portsmouth, RI, son of the late Manuel and Mary (Leandro) Silvia, he moved to Westport after coming out of the service. A veteran of the Korean War, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. Prior to retirement in 1990, he served as a firefighter for the Town of Westport for 27 years, retiring as a lieutenant. Mr. Silvia was a Communicant of St. George Church, Westport. He enjoyed fishing and playing the lottery, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include a daughter: Nancy T. Carter of Westport; 2 sons: Michael P. Silvia of Westport and Rodney F. Silvia of Westport; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several siblings.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 9:00 A.M. from the Potter Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Friday 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
