Obituary

THOMPSON – Bernard R. Carpenter, Sr., 75, of 74 Center Lane, died Monday, September 27, at home after an illness. His wife of 25 years, Margaret M. (Bond) Carpenter, died in 1999.

He leaves; 5 sons, Bernard R. Carpenter, Jr. of Quinebaug, Edward M. Szela of Plainfield, John F. Carpenter of Thompson, Duncan E. Szela of Woodstock and Paul A. Carpenter of Hanover; 4 daughters, Doreen F. Riley of Putnam, Mary Ann Long of Plainfield, Caroline L Shaylor of Southbridge, MA and Beverly R. Szela of Dudley, MA; 3 sisters, Evelyn Bates of Thompson, Joyce Bomba of Webster, MA and Marilyn Van Dyke of Webster, MA; 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a son Michael W. Carpenter in 1998 and 2 sisters Eileen Fougere and Phyllis Sturgeon.

He was born in Webster, MA, a son of Walter G. and Antoinette (Latour) Carpenter. He was a truck driver for Wajers Express for many years retiring in 1989.

Mr. Carpenter was a coach for little league, a school bus driver and was a scout master for Troop 29, Saint Joseph, North Grosvenordale. He enjoyed camping and golf.

The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The family suggests donations be made to Hospice of North Eastern Connecticut, Day Kimbal Philanthropy Office, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260. Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street, Webster, is directing funeral arrangements.
