TEWKSBURY - Charles Sullivan, a retired Tewksbury police officer and member of a large wellknow area family, died Saturday Sept. 25, 2004 at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowellafter a lengthy battle with heart disease. He was the beloved husband of Mary Claire (Hunt)Sullivan with whom he had celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary last December 19th.
He was born in Tewksbury, Sept. 3, 1931, one of 15 children of the late Frank and Catherine(Mullen) Sullivan, and was a lifelong Tewksbury resident.
He served in the U.S. Navy as 3rd class Petty Officer during the Korean War.
He worked as a mechanic and later as a police officer for the town of Tewksbury.
Besides his wife he is also survived by two sons; Charles Sullivan Jr. of Lowell, Thomas and hiswife Sue (Perreault) Sullivan of Tewksbury; two daughters, Donna and her husband RichardSullivan of Tewksbury, Janet and her husband Kenneth Aalerud of Tewksbury; four brothersFrank and his wife Theresa (Lebelle) Sullivan, David and his wife Linda (Sullivan) Sullivan, Jamesand his wife Kathleen (Horne) Sullivan all of Tewksbury, Patrick Sullivan of Chester, NH; eightsisters, Eleanor Edge, Rita and her husband Michael Hassett all of Chelmsford, Catherine and herhusband Earl Doak of FL, Jean and her husband William LaMarre of New Ipswich, NH, MarieNolan of Tewksbury, Patricia and her husband Ed Duffet, Janet and her husband Richard Martinall of Hudson, NH, Carol and her husband Victor Chartier of Londonderry, NH; a sister -in -law, Theresa (Backoff) Sullivan of Tewksbury; seven grandchildren, Charlene, Kenny, Eric andTimmy Aalerud, Ben, Peter andJennifer Sullivan; a great grandson, Alex; and 96 nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Daniel and Richard Sullivan, and grandfather of the late“Chucky” Sullivan.
His Funeral Mass was held Thursday, Sept. 30, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Interment with Tewksbury Police and Navy honors was inTewksbury Cemetery.
