Tony James Powell, 51, of Tifton died Friday, November 8, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Pastor Robin W. Starnes will officiate with burial to follow in Empire Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lanier County. Scott Powell, Ray Powell, David Powell, Johnny Davis, Jamie Baker and Sabastian Hernandez will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Powell was born on July 16, 1962 in Jacksonville, Florida and was the son of James L. Powell and Rachel Powell, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his grandfather, Tom Powell; and a daughter, Deborah Martinez. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Charlene York Powell of Tifton; his grandmother, Ida Mae Powell; his children and their spouses, Tommy Hall of Fitzgerald, Melissa and Joe Starnes of Mystic and Dustin James and Kristin Powell of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two brothers, Scott Powell of Alapaha and Ray Powell of Chula; two sisters, Priscilla Saldana of Tifton and Karen Powell of Jesup; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
