Emma John Bagley Buchanan, 96

Emma John (Angle) Bagley Buchanan, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at home in Norton.
She was pre-deceased in death by her loving husbands William Blake Bagley, married 49 years, and Charles Lee Buchanan, married 15 years, of Anniston, Alabama
Emma John was the beautiful loving mother to Barbara Bagley Silvia and her husband Michael of Norton and Brenda Bagley Dunaway and her husband Mac of Chevy Chase, Maryland, devoted grand mother to Ashley Dunaway Johnston, Derek William Dunaway, Leslie Dunaway May, Tony Silvia and Emalee Silvia Johnson and super awesome great grand mother to Bailey, MacDowell, and Walker Johnston and Hollis, Harrison and Reeve May. In her later marriage to Charles Lee Buchanan she was the loving step mother, grand mother and great grand mother to the Buchanan family.
She grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and had the distinction of never missing a day in school. She moved to Anniston, Alabama where she worked for Monsanto. She met her husband William in Anniston where they raised their family.
She was active in many organizations; Parker Memorial Baptist Church; President of the Gertrude Bell Sunday School Class; Anniston Country Club; President of the DAR of Anniston, Alabama; Knox Music Club; Friends; and in her later years she worked for the benefit of Habitat for Humanity.
She was a passionate bridge player, fun to play with, and she passed on her love of cards to her children and grandchildren. Family was the focal point of her life. She encouraged dancing, music, art, a good education, gardening, cooking, and most of all to be independent.
In her mid 80s she traveled on a mission trip to Honduras, assisting doctors who were administering care to local residents.
While living in Norton, Emma John took classes at Wheaton College for seniors, offered by NICE , and ended up serving on the organizations board. She was active in Friends of the Norton Library and at the Norton Senior Center, and had also attended the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton.
She was an avid golfer and in her 90s served as a hostess at the Tiger Woods Deutsche Bank Tournament in Norton. Emma John was the epitome of what it meant to be a gracious, charming, independent woman.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a memorial service in celebration of her life on Thursday, November 14th at 6:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home,19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
