Obituary

AUBURN___Francis A. Progin, 81, of 557 Southwest Cutoff died Saturday Sept. 25 in Autumn Village Nursing Center, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Alma (Perron) Progin, a son, James F. Progin of Spencer; a brother, Kenneth Progin of Holden; two sisters, Edith Siart of Grafton and Claire Beaulieu of Auburn; two grandchildren; Julie A. Smith and Gregory J. Progin both of Worcester; a great-grandson, Sebastian “Smitty” Smith and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Alton Progin, Roland Progin and Beatrice Hollembaek. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of Frank A. and Anna M. (Graves) Progin and has lived in Auburn for many years.

Mr. Progin was a meter reader for the City of Worcester Water Dept., many years and retired in 1981. He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in Europe at Normandy, the Rhineland and the Ardennes. He was held as a prisoner of war in Germany. He was a graduate of Commerce High School, Worcester.

Mr. Progin was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Worcester, Grafton Hill Post 323 American Legion, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ex P.O.W. Association.

The funeral will be on Tuesday Sept. 28 with a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 35 Hamilton St., Worcester. Burial will be private in Notre Dame Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Renovation Fund, 5 Whitman Rd., Worcester, 01609.
