WESTFIELD – Francis A. Bell, 66, of Westfield was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at the Vibra Hospital of Western Massachusetts surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Springfield on October 16, 1947, a son of the late Leon F. and Hermina V. (Hodge) Bell. He was raised in the North End section of Springfield, graduated in 1966 from the High School of Commerce and lived in Springfield for many years. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1986 after over 20 years of service with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with Four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Short Tour Ribbon with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Force Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with a Palm Oak Leaf Cluster. He lived in Germany for a short time before returning to Western Massachusetts where he lived in Agawam and West Springfield before moving to Westfield in August of 2005. Francis was a well known self employed graphic artist in the local area for many years. He leaves his brother and sister-in-law, William E. Bell and his wife, Joanne, and their son, his nephew, Daniel W. Bell; his sisters, Elizabeth Bell and Lynn Bell; his caregiver and friend, Tania Taupier; and his good friends, Zeke and Jane Lemanski. His relatives and friends are invited to a visiting hour on Saturday morning, November 9, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. which will be followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
