CHICOPEE – Jean Guy Petit, 74, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on All Souls Day, Saturday, November 2, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at the Calvin Coolidge Nursing Home in Northampton surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving wife, Lise. Jean Guy had been a resident at Calvin Coolidge Nursing Home since August of 1987 as a result of being injured in an industrial accident. He was born in Waterville, Province of Quebec, Canada on July 20, 1939, a beloved son of the late Jean Marie Petit and Marie O’Diana Carrier. He was raised and schooled in Waterville, Canada and moved to the Willimansett section of Chicopee on June 6, 1965. He was employed as a machinist mechanic at the former US Envelope Company which later became Westvaco in Springfield until June 3, 1987 when he was injured while at work. He was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Willimansett. He leaves his devoted wife and best friend, Lise (Noel) Petit. They were married on June 30, 1962 at the Church of Saint Jean de Breboeuf in Sherbrooke, Province of Quebec, Canada and were blessed with 51 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving sons, Christian J. Petit and his wife, Ellen, of Chicago, IL, and Todd G. Petit and his wife, Michelle, of Arlington, VA; his two cherished grandchildren, Eleanor and Alexander Petit; his dear brothers and sisters, Gilles Petit and his wife, Aline Ruel, of Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada, Soeur Claire Petit, Les Soeurs du Sauveur, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Gerald Petit and his wife, Noella Ruel, of Waterville, P.Q., Canada, Fernand Petit of Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada, Rejane Petit Robin of Saint Raymond, P.Q., Canada, Diane Petit of Sherbrooke, P.Q., Canada, and Paul Petit of Mount Saint Hilaire, P.Q., Canada; his dear sister-in-law, Aline Favreau Petit of Canada; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Petit and Noel families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, Claude Petit; his dear brother-in-law, Gaston Robin; and his dear sister-in-law, Henriette Gauthier Petit. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, November 8, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
