LOWELL— Edward C. Whitney, 61 years old, died unexpectedly, Wednesday morning at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Donna Martell-Whitney, who survives him.
He was born in Lowell, on January 5, 1943, a son of the late Edward J. and Ada G. (Buzzell) Whitney, and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1961.
Mr. Whitney served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated the Kenwood Paving Company, in Lowell, for over 20 years, and was an active member of the Laborer’s Union, Local #429. He also held membership in the Centralville Social Club.
Surviving him besides his wife are two step-children: Michelle and James Helms, of Charlotte, NC; and Richard Blair, of Lowell; two step-grandchildren: Brittany and Nicholas Helms; cousins: Shirley McCarthy, Dolores Runyan, Joan Benoit, Barbara Perry; and niece: Cindy Whitney.
He was the brother of the late William J. Whitney.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 26th, from 4 until 8 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Service to be held Monday morning, September 27th, at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial in the Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
