WORCESTER - Carol "Auntie" (Grimaldo) Sclamo, of Worcester, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Friday, November 1st 2013.
Carol was born in Worcester on May 11th, 1919, one of six children of Francesco and Anna (Fazio) Grimaldo. Carol met her husband Vincent and married him on June 2, 1945 and together they took in and cared selflessly for her brothers Ray and Bill after losing their parents at a young age. Carol's husband Vinny of 63 years passed away in 2008.
She leaves, her brother, William Grimaldo and his wife Rita; and her sisters in-law Angelina Grimaldo, Mary Grimaldi, Iris Grimaldi, and her brother in-law Robert Roy. She also leaves her beloved nieces Donna Jordan, Anna Rosi and Angela Exarchos, and nephews Bill, Ray and Joe Grimaldo who she loved and cared for as her own children. Carol leaves many nieces and nephews and godchildren. She was "Auntie" to many.
She was predeceased her brothers Joseph, Albert and Raymond, her sister, Loretta Roy and nephews Richard Grimaldo and Francis Grimaldi.
Carol was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel- St Ann Church and its Golden Years Association running a booth at the annual Christmas bazaar for many years. She was also a lifetime member of San Vitaliano Women’s Society. One of Carol's passions was dancing. She was granted a key to the Froshian Club where she danced with Vinny every Saturday night always making sure that their clothes were perfectly matched, much to Vinny's dismay. Carol was a seamstress all her life managing Stanley Sportswear for over 30 years before retiring in 1989.
Carol was the matriarch of her family hosting holidays and passing on family traditions to the generations to follow. Carol was very thankful to her neighbors who were there for her in her later years and rewarded them with pizza and Italian pasta dinners even when she wasn't able to make it by herself.
Carol’s funeral will be held Wednesday November 6th at Our Lady of Mount Carmel- St. Ann Church at 11:00 am. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday morning from 9:00am to 10:30am.
