Obituary

Amelia Annette Bishop Dorsett, 76, of Tifton died Thursday, October 31, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013, in the Memorial Chapel of First Baptist Church of Tifton. Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Tommy Smallwood, Jim Sinclair, Bob Hammond, Harry Brewer, John M. “Butch” Davis and Dr. Steve Rigdon will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Merle Bowen Friendship Sunday School class of First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3, 2013, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mrs. Dorsett was born on October 23, 1937 in Irwin County and was the daughter of Ernest Roscoe Bishop and Martha Belle King Bishop, both deceased. She was a homemaker, owner of Dorsett Interiors by Amelia and was retired as the Pastor's secretary of First Baptist Church of Tifton. She was also a member of First Baptist Church and the Merle Bowen Friendship Sunday School class.

Mrs. Dorsett was a caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who loved the Lord with all her heart. She was known for her compassionate heart, kind spirit, encouraging words and beautiful smile. Her family will always remember her as a true warrior and hero in how she kept fighting through the many health challenges she faced over the past 20 years.

Mrs. Dorsett was an avid golfer; enjoyed playing bridge; and had a great love for gardening, especially her roses. She was a member of the Springhill Country Club Ladies Golf Association where, in 1989, she won the Championship of the Ladies Handicap Tournament. She was also a past member of the Magnolia Garden Club.

Mrs. Dorsett and her husband traveled worldwide, meeting with foreign dignitaries and business leaders through People to People International. Among the 14 countries visited were Australia, New Zealand, China, Russia, Israel, Iceland, and Greenland.

Mrs. Dorsett is survived by her husband, T. Howard Dorsett of Tifton; one son, David Howard Dorsett of Alpharetta; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Dorsett Lysett and husband Mark of Alpharetta; one brother, Ernest “Royce” Bishop of Tifton; two grandchildren, Margaux Kathryn Lysett and Meredith Nichole Lysett of Alpharetta; a nephew, Ernie Bishop of Ty Ty; and a niece, Natalie Bishop of Valdosta.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the TV ministry at Tifton’s First Baptist Church, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794; or to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness, Tifton Unit, P. O. Box 7514, Tifton, GA 31793.
