Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Louise (Brown) Porter 88, of Danvers, formerly of Topsfield, beloved wife of Carleton Eugene Porter, died Tuesday, October 29th, 2013 at Emeritus at Cherry Hill, Danvers, surrounded by her family.
Born in Yarmouth, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Robie M. and Jean (Dimock) Brown. She spent her early high school years in Swansea and then in Lowell, graduating from Lowell High School in 1942. She continued her education at New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her Nursing Diploma in 1946.
Mrs. Porter worked in her early nursing years most notably with the late Dr. Frank Lahey at New England Baptist Hospital. She had been employed for over 17 years as a Registered Nurse at the former Hunt Hospital in Danvers as a Cardiac Care Nurse.
A loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Dottie was a resident of the Town of Topsfield for over 53 years until recently moving to Danvers. She was an active member of the Congregational Church of Topsfield for over 53 years, dedicating much of her free time to the church and church activities. She was a member of the Needle Craft Guild and the Women’s Group of the Congregational Church of Topsfield. She was a member of the Topsfield Historical Society and was an avid traveler with her husband. She was a master of knitting and sewing. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her loving husband, Carleton, of 65 years, Dottie is survived by her daughter Judi Klingensmith and her husband Jack of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, her sons, Rick Porter of North Arlington, New Jersey, Kevin Porter and his wife Sharon of Chelmsford, MA and Scott Porter and his wife Patti of Middlefield, CT., her grandchildren, Lisa Statkiewicz, Jason Klingensmith, Kyle, Jeffrey, Brendan, Nathan, Andrew and Logan Porter, her great grandchildren, Ryan and Sara Statkiewicz and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Bruce Porter and sister of the late Pauline Peckham and Vivian Brown.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held at the Congregational Church of Topsfield, 9 East Common St., Topsfield, Saturday, November 2nd at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield. Visiting hours at C.R. Lyons and Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers, Friday, Nov. 1st from 5 to 8 P.M.
