LEICESTER: Daniel E. Colby 59, of 30 Pleasant St., died Sunday, Oct. 27 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester surrounded by his family.
He leaves a son Daniel J. Colby, two daughters Erin E. and Colleen F. Colby all of Leicester, two grandchildren Shea and Kayla Colby, his father John C. Colby and his companion Carol Colby of Rochdale, his former wife Diane (Canty) Colby of Leicester, three brothers Roland Colby and his wife Arlene, Wayne Colby and his wife Linda and James Colby and his wife Missy all of Leicester, two sisters Christine Colby and her companion Todd Jyringi of Rochdale and June Kennedy and her husband John of Spencer, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his stepmother Evelyn (West) Colby in 2001.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of John C. and the late Doris (Carpenter) Colby and lived here all of his life. He graduated from Leicester High School in 1974, where he played four years on the football team and was a member of the 1972 team that went undefeated that year.
He was a former Leicester Firefighter and longtime coach for the Leicester/Spencer Pop Warner Football Team and also the Leicester Girls Softball League. He was an avid sportsman.
Danny lived for his children and grandchildren.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Auburn Life Care Center for their compassionate care while Danny was a patient at the facility.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11a.m. in the Greenville Baptist Chapel (non handicap accessible), 684 Pleasant St., Rochdale. Burial of his ashes will follow in Greenville Baptist Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Leicester Food Pantry, 761 Main St., Leicester, MA 01524. MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester is directing arrangements for the family.
