Obituary

NATICK: Maxime Joseph “Max” Caissie, age 94, a World War II veteran and longtime resident of both South Natick and Ashland, died on Monday morning, October 28, 2013, at his Millis home.

Born in Kent, New Brunswick, Canada, Max was the youngest of Alexandre and Caroline (Richard) Caissie’s ten children. The family immigrated to Massachusetts when Max was a toddler and he was raised and educated in Salem and ultimately Waltham. After high school, he was employed as a watchmaker with Waltham Watch Company and as an auto mechanic with Commonwealth Chevrolet in Boston. He entered the Army in 1942, and served as a sergeant in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres for the duration of the war.

Max lived several years in Athol prior to settling in Natick where he and his late wife, Jeanne (MacKnight) Caissie, raised their growing family. Max managed Natick’s Colonial Theatre until its closure in 1958, and also worked for a number of years with the Raytheon Company. Max enjoyed designing and building, his craft encompassing anything from small objects to home renovation and remodeling. In addition to puttering about his home, he very much enjoyed fishing, particularly with his brother Dave.

He is survived by three sons, John F. Caissie and his wife Elaine of Millis, William A. Caissie and his wife Linda of Millis, and Peter R. Caissie of Edgewater, FL; five daughters, Barbara E. Caissie of Millis, Cynthia Avadanian of Millis, Mary E. Pettepit and her husband Steve of Intervale, NH, Annie Feldsteen of Fort Meyers, FL, and Caroline C. Solari and her husband John of Medway; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Max was also the brother of the late late Desire “Dave” Caissie, Thomas, Emile, Charles, and Leonid Caissie, Alice Gaudet, Philomene Albert, Delma Nelson, Catherine Adams, and Margaret Veazue.

His funeral will be on Saturday, November 2nd at 10:00a.m. at his gravesite in Glenwood Cemetery, 25 Glenwood Street, South Natick. Visiting hours will be in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Friday, 4 – 7p.m.
