SOUTH HADLEY – Marilyn E. (Jaeger) Skill, 79, of Shadowbrook Estates in South Hadley was Called Safely Home on Sunday, October 27, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life from Renaissance Manor on Cabot in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Buffalo, New York on September 28, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph N. and Lillian L. (Tamlin) Jaeger. She was raised and schooled in Buffalo, NY and lived in the city for many years. Her late husband, Charles, was a career veteran of the United States Air Force and his duty assignment brought them to Westover Air Force Base in 1960. They eventually purchased a home on Roberts Pond Lane in the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1972 and lived there until moving to South Hadley in 1998. Marilyn was employed at the former Valley Bank which later became Bay Bank Valley and finally Bay Bank. She retired after 20 years as manager of Bay Bank at the former Fairfield Mall on Memorial Drive in Chicopee. She also completed taxes for many clients from her home and worked part-time for the H & R Block Company. Marilyn was a member of the Hillside Divas of the Red Hat Society, a member of the Good Sam Pioneers, and a member of the H & R Block Monthly Luncheon Group. She was also an avid bowler, a member of the Westover Bowling League and the longtime coordinator of the Westover Junior Bowling League. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of Saint Anne Church in Fairview where she volunteered her time and talents and was a member of the Saint Anne Sodality Guild. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who showered her family with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Charles J. Skill who was Called Home on April 27, 2006. They were married on December 29, 1956 at Saint Mary Magdalene Church in Buffalo, New York and were blessed with over 49 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her loving son, Brian J. Skill who was Called Home on March 26, 1962. She leaves her three loving children, Charles J. Skill, Jr. and his wife, Jenille, of Bellevue, NE, Therese M. “Terri” Skill of South Hadley, and John P. Skill and his wife, Sheri, of Belchertown; her two cherished granddaughters whom she adored, Jennifer L. Thompson and her husband, Kevin, of Palmer and Amanda M. Skill of Belchertown; her cherished great-grandson who was the “apple of her eye”, Mason Thompson; her dear sister, Janet Leone and her partner, Ron, of New York; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended members of the Skill and Jaeger families. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, November 1, 2013, (The Feast of All Saints), beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
