UPTON: Alan Thomas Mix, 53, died peacefully in the care and comfort of his family on October 4, 2013 following a courageous and dignified battle with head and neck cancer.
He was born in Newton on December 27, 1959 the son of the late Arthur E Mix and Irene C. (Rost) Mix.
Alan is survived by his son Tyler Mix of Pawtucket, RI. He was the brother of Jeffrey D. Mix and his wife Beverly Mix of Natick and Kristin L. Mix of Stow. He was the uncle of Donnie Rogers and her husband Paul Rogers; Christopher Mix and his wife Melissa Mix and Andrew Mix. He is also survived by his girlfriend Lisa D. Hyde of Mashpee.
Alan spent his formative years in Wayland and graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1979. He was the owner of Alan T. Mix Painting Co. specializing in residential and commercial painting since 1982. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed many visits to Tanzania and Africa on safaris and leaves many friends in that area. He loved the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots and spent time with family and friends watching the games. He also spent time in his home in Randolph, NH where he was closer to the great outdoors and shared a great respect for nature and the environment. He was a loving and devoted father to his son Tyler who was the center of his life. He was a good neighbor and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew Alan and became his friend for life.
At the request of his family there will be no funeral home visitations.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 169 Rice Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Private family interment will be held at a later date.
