Peggy Alexander Player, 76, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, October 28, 2013, at her residence.
Memorial services will be held 4 PM, Saturday, November 2, 2013, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Stone officiating. Dale Alexander and Sandra Alexander will give eulogies. The family will greet friends following the service.
Mrs. Player was born October 13, 1937, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late William Arthur & Lillian Whitley Alexander. She was a 1956 graduate of Irwin County High School. Mrs. Player was in the first graduating class of Birdwood Junior College in Thomasville, now known as Thomas University. She worked at Haile’s Drug Store and in the nursery at First Baptist Church. She was also a former librarian at the Carnegie Library in Fitzgerald and was well known for her work in the children’s department. Mrs. Player was a member of Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sisters: Terri Alexander and Connie & Randy Smith, all of Fitzgerald; two brothers: Bobby Alexander & Jimmy Alexander, both of Fitzgerald; two sisters-in-law: Louise “Dee” Alexander of Canton and Sandra Alexander of Fitzgerald; caregiver and cousin: Teresa Lawton of Panama City, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Edward M. “Bucky” Player; two brothers: Warren Alexander and William Alexander; and a great-nephew: Chandler Alexander.
