Jennie Marguerite McAllister
March 17, 1917- October 27, 2013
Anderson-Jennie Marguerite McAllister, 96, passed away in St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital on October 27, following a brief illness.
She was born March 17, 1917 in Willow Hill, Illinois, to Calvin and Alice Haywood. She lived in Evansville and Kokomo before settling in Anderson in early 1945 upon her marriage to Virgil H. McAllister, who preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and two step daughters.
A devoted housewife and mother, she worked seasonally in the Anderson Post Office, where her
husband worked for many years, and later as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney downtown and at the Mounds Mall. She was a member of Southern Heights Christian Church. She had previously been a member of Grace Methodist Church and Emmanuel UMC.
Mrs. McAllister is survived by two sons, David McAllister (Richard Beamer) of Minden, Nevada; and Donald McAllister (Susan) of Anderson, eight grandchildren, Emily Cooper of Apopka, Florida; Jenny Sohn of Cincinnati, Ohio; John McAllister of Anderson; Mark McAllister of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Michael McAllister of San Francisco, California; Travis Brobst of Sierra Vista, Arizona; John Henry Brobst of Alexandria; and Millie Beck of Anderson and several great grandchildren; a special grandson, Andrew Prieshoff. The family would also like to recognize her special friends, Mary Gutierrez and Janet Harting.
Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, October 30,. Services will be held at Rozelle's at 10:30 on Thursday, October 31 with Elder Bob Hendrickson of Southern Heights Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Southern Heights Christian Church.
