Alvin Parks, 79, of Ben Hill County, Georgia, died Sunday, October 27, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Duncan and the Rev. Dudley Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Parks was born March 30, 1934, in Turner County, Georgia to the late Lewis & Gladys Mixon Parks. He attended school in Owensboro and at Lynnwood and served his country honorably in the National Guard for 4 years. He was a former truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He loved to farm and garden and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Parks was an award-winning barrel racer who loved animals, especially horses and dogs. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church and formerly served on the House & Grounds Committee and the Social Committee.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Marcia L. Williamson Parks of Ben Hill County; one sister: Lunez Camponela of New Jersey; sisters-in-law: Edith & W.L. James and Judy Hannah, all of Ben Hill County, and Linda & Needam Carver of Moultrie. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Phyllis McDonald; and four brothers: Billy Parks, Joey Parks, Claude Parks, and Roger Parks.
