Eugene L. Morrissey,84, of Klondike Street, Providence passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday October 26, 2013 in the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of the late Mary T (McElroy) Morrissey.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Thomas J. and Katherine J. (Croft) Morrissey. He had lived in Providence 58 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Providence Gas Company for 23 years before retiring in 1992.
He is survived by his children, Jean Geer and her partner Kevin Lonergan of Providence, Kevin Morrissey and his wife Nadine of Pascoag, Colleen Morrissey-Levins and her husband Chet of Shrewsbury, MA and Kathleen Lonardo and her husband John of Harrisville, his brothers, Joseph and Earl Morrissey both of North Providence, son in law David Geer of West Palm Beach, FL, his grandchildren, Jayson Geer, David Chris Geer, Courtney Charland, Scott Geer, Caitlin Geer, Erin Geer, Kevin Morrissey, Michaela Morrissey, Kasey Lonardo, Kimberly Lonardo, Jack Lonardo and Joseph Levins, and his great grandchildren, Braeden Geer, Colin Geer and Kathryn Charland. He was the brother of the late Thomas Morrissey.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, ( 2 Church Street ) Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am in St. Thomas Church, Fruit Hill Avenue, Providence. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Tuesday 4-7pm.
